Biography

Fabrice Bourge was born in 1964 in Normandy, in an area renowned for its Percheron horses. After studying engineering in Angers, in the Loire Valley in France, and obtaining a Master's degree from Louisiana State University, he married a Louisiana native and had three daughters. He has worked for Orange's innovation division since 1991, specializing in data science and artificial intelligence.

Fabrice owes a lot to his father, Pierre Bourge, who was a prominent figure in French amateur astronomy during the second half of the 20th century. It was Pierre who taught Fabrice the fundamentals of photography when he was fourteen years old. Fabrice quickly began experimenting with various techniques, including macro photography, astrophotography, and stereophotography. Even today, he mainly works in black and white, overseeing every stage of the process, from shooting and developing film to printing on high quality paper and finishing.

Over the years, he has also learned to sharpen his eye. “Sight is my most developed sense” he says. “I am fascinated by the fact that some people can capture the essence of a moment in a single photograph. Poets do it with words, photographers with images.
